Turkey U17 national team have been eliminated from FIFA U17 World Cup after losing 5-3 to Colombia on penalties in a game which was initially ended 1-1 after extra time.
Although Muhammet Demir gave Turkey the lead on 20 minutes, Colombia's injury time equalizer by Ramos delayed Turkish hopes. As both sides failed to break the deadlock even after extra time, the game went into penalty shootout.
Orhan Gülle, Gökay İravul and Okan Alkan made no mistake from the spot, while Furkan Şeker missed the penalty. Colombia's goals in the shootout came from Arias, Morillo, Ramos, Catano and Cuellar.
Turkey defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 and Costa Rica 4-1 then completed their group games with a 1-1 draw against New Zealand. Those results took Turkey to next round where they knocked out United Arab Emirates with a 2-0 result. Meanwhile, Colombia had overwhelmed Argentina 3-2 on second round to clinch a clash with Turkey, following their group matches. In the group stage where they finished as runners-up, they had beaten Holland 2-1 but held to 0-0 and 2-2 draws against Iran and Gambia respectively.
