Our Potential Opponents for FIFA World Cup 2026 Are Determined

The draw for FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by United States (USA), Mexico, and Canada between 11 June 2026 and 19 July 2026, has been conducted.

Turkish Football Federation was represented at the draw ceremony held at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., the capital of United States, by TFF President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, TFF Deputy President Prof. Dr. H. Zehra Neşe Kavak, TFF General Secretary Abdullah Ayaz, Senior National Team Head Coach Vincenzo Montella, TFF Foreign Affairs and National Teams Executive Director Buğra İmamoğulları and TFF Senior and U21 National Teams Administrative Manager Mert Tuncay.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were U.S. President Donald Trump, President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum, and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, representing the host nations of the tournament. The ceremony began with a live performance by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and opening remarks by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The draw was conducted by English football legend Rio Ferdinand, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, NFL legend Tom Brady, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky and MLB star Aaron Judge. Additionally, FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented FIFA Peace Award to U.S. President Donald Trump during the ceremony.

Automatically placed in Pot 4 regardless of its FIFA ranking due to its participation in the play-off round, our National Team will compete in Group D of FIFA World Cup 2026 against United States, Paraguay, and Australia, should it advance from the play-off round.

In the semi-final of European Qualifiers Play-Off Path C for FIFA World Cup 2026, our National Team will host Romania on Thursday, 26 March 2026. If we defeat Romania, we will face the winner of Slovakia - Kosovo matchup in the final, which will be played away on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. The winner of the final will earn one of the last four European spots at FIFA World Cup 2026.

A total of 48 teams will compete in twelve groups of four at FIFA World Cup 2026, with 104 matches to be played throughout the tournament. The opening match will take place on 11 June 2026 at the 83,000-seat Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, between Mexico and South Africa. The final match of FIFA World Cup 2026 will be played on 19 July 2026 at the 82,500-seat MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
