Çakır, Duran and Ongun to attend 2014 FIFA World Cup

TFF's FIFA Referee, Cüneyt Çakır, has been invited to officiate matches in 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals which will be held in Brazil at this summer.

Alongside with Cüneyt Çakır, Bahattin Duran and Tarık Ongun who are TFF's FIFA Assistant Referees, will also join the tournament with Çakır as an assistant referees of the games which Cüneyt Çakır will officiate.

With this invitation, Cüneyt Çakır will be the first Turkish referee who will officiate a game in FIFA World Cup Finals after 40 years that Doğan Babacan had attended 1974 FIFA World Cup Finals as a referee.

Besides; Cüneyt Çakır will be the first Turkish referee who officiate matches both in FIFA World Cup and European Championship Finals; while Bahattin Duran and Tarık Ongun will be the first Turkish assistant referee who are on the duty in FIFA World Cup Finals.

Information about Cüneyt Çakır:

Cüneyt Çakır, who was raised from UEFA 1st Category to UEFA Elite Category on June 2011, started to his refereeing career in 1994 and became FIFA Referee in 2006. He officiates Turkish Super League matches since 2001. Besides, Çakır had officiated in important international tournaments such as 2006-07 UEFA U19 European Championship, 2008-09 UEFA U21 European Championship Semi-Final, 2010 UEFA Europa League Semi-Final Second Leg, 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, 2011-2012 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg (Barcelona-Chelsea), EURO 2012 Finals (Includes the semi-final between Spain and Portugal), 2013 FIFA Club World Cup (Includes opening and final games).

Alongside with Cüneyt Çakır, 25 referee trios and 8 referee support duoa have appointed by FIFA Referees Committee for FIFA World Cup Finals.
