TFF Super League and First League Broadcasting Rights have been acquired by Digital Platform A.Ş. (Digiturk) for a record sum of €235 for four years. Turkish pay-TV provide, who had the live broadcasting rights since 2001 will extend this until the end of 2013-2014 season.

In the tender which was done today at Turkish Football Federation's headquarters in İstanbul, the rights comprised of three packages. A package included live broadcasting rights of at least four matches each week. B package included 15-minute extended highlights of live broadcasted matches and 3-minute short highlights of other games. This package also included the rights to market those highlights in addition to live broadcasting of First League matches, wheras C package covered the highlights for mobile devices.

Digiturk and Türk Telekom A.Ş. were into very competitive bidding process for A package. Starting bids for Digiturk and Turk Telekom were €161m and €156m respectively. In the end  Digiturk won the four-hour tender. Winners Digiturk will also make extra payments of 10 per cent to TFF, 2 percent for the league organization and VAT. Turkish Radio Television (TRT) won the B package by making the only bid for a sum of €29.5m, while Türk Telekom A.Ş. acquired mobile for TFF Super League and First League licences by offering €9.9m.

The first tender for broadcasting football matches was conducted in 1994-95 season. This tender saw sharing of rights between five channels and the total revenue only amounted to only €5.3m. After 16 years, the broadcasting revenues of Super League have increased 39-fold. Turkish Broadcasting Rights which were sold in different packages for the first time this year, produced a 126 per cent increase in the total income compared to previous tender.

Commenting after the completing of the tender, Turkish Football Federation president Mahmut Özgener said: "The result of this tender was a further step to the improvement of Turkish football in the past 25 years. Turkish football's economic value is in a consistent increase despite the global crisis. It's because of the trust within the Turkish football community."
