Turkish minnows Bursaspor have been crowned Turkish Super League champions by beating Beşiktaş AŞ 2-1 , overthrowing leaders Fenerbahçe SK who drew 1-1 against Trabzonspor AŞ. Established in 1963, Bursaspor not only reached this triumph for the first time in their history, but became the first club ever to win that trophy since 1983/84 season when Trabzonspor lifted it.
 
Bursaspor took the lead after 32 minutes through Pablo Batalla, then Beşiktaş's İbrahim Toraman's own goal doubled the score for the champions. Uğur İnceman pulled one back for the Black Eagles three minutes from time but that was nothing more than a consolation. Having entered this weekend, only a point shy of Fenerbahçe, now claimed the league title by reaching 75 points, with a single point advantage against the İstanbul side.
 
Bursaspor coach Ertuğrul Sağlam was very proud of his side. "After claiming the pole position in the league during the course of the season, we believed we can win the title from the heart. Despite losing the pole position to Fenerbahçe we did not lose our hope. We always waited for Fenerbahçe to stumble.  After Trabzonspor, we helped Anatolian lands to enjoy this success. It's an  honour. Now we have even a bigger responsibility on our shoulders. Representing our country in UEFA Champions League in the best way. We'll try not to let people who supported us down. The whole Bursa city wrote this history. We created a good team and that was the key of our title success."
