8 I am Barış Telli… Was born, raised, and live in Turkey. Every single moment of my life, I feel privileged and honoured to have represented my country in the World Cup and the European Championship as an international player. I had a dream… Ever since I stood on my feet, I dreamt of playing football and running after that magical ball. Lacking one foot, I never gave up my dream of playing football. Every night when I laid my head on the pillow, even with my disability, I believed that I would be a football player one day. I have never given up my ambition to score goals on the pitch, to make thousands of spectators cheer, and to enable Turkey to have a leading position in European amputee football. I did this as a national team footballer where I played in the World Cup and was awarded the gold medal in the European 2017 Amputee Football Championship. I owe all my successes to the ‘Football for Everyone’ programme, which encourages all people in our country to play football. And now, I have an even bigger goal… This goal is not only mine; it is shared with the whole of Turkey. Our current motivation is to host UEFA EURO 2024 in this beautiful country that has been the cradle of civilisation for thousands of years. In addition to the Federation and our Government, the entire population in 81 cities shares our belief that it is Turkey’s time now. I have no doubt that the valuable stakeholders of the European football family will be impressed with our firm belief, enthusiasm, and eagerness to host this tournament. Turkey will organise this event to further fuel the love of this beautiful game amongst devoted football fans located in different corners of the world. Regardless of identity, origin, or how much they love football, this land embraces everyone equally and it is ready to host UEFA EURO 2024.
